Re: Non-Profit Status of Mike Goodman's Seminole 6 Sports

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Since graduating from Yale Law School in 1984, I have practiced law in Florence, South Carolina. I have been involved in many volunteer youth activities in Florence. Before meeting Mike Goodman, I heard others talk about his exceptional volunteer work. I met Mike a few years ago when my son was participating in the local Florence County Junior Football League. I know first-hand the enormous positive impact Mike has made on children in our community. I have never known a more dedicated person committed to helping young people than Mike.

Mike has sponsored and coached youth football teams for several years. Mike uses football as a means to attain the attention, confidence, and respect from young people. Although Mike shows kids how to become better football players, his ultimate goal is to teach them what he calls ''life lessons.'' Mike has taught thousands of youngsters life lessons, such as how to study for an exam at school, how to buy groceries, how to properly knot a necktie, how to change oil in a car, and the importance of respecting and helping others.

About 3 years ago, Mike founded a non-profit organization called Seminole 6 Sports to teach life lessons to boys mostly between the ages of 5 and 17. During an average year, Mike mentors about 200 youngsters of all ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds. One of Mike's important goals is to help youth avoid involvement with gangs, illicit drugs, and crime. Mike instills pride in our youth by their working hard, studying hard in school , and being a good citizen.

All communities need people like Mike. The Florence community benefits greatly from Mike's selfless devotion to helping young people have a better future. I strongly support Mike's effort to maintain the non-profit status for his Seminole 6 Sports program. If I can provide any more information about the importance of Mike and Seminole 6 Sports to  thousands of young people, please never hesitate to contact me.

Thank you; and, with warm regards, I am

Sincerely yours,
